Joe Murphy - General Manager
Joe Murphy has been a Baseball Scout for over 30 years. He has worked for several Major League organizations including the Phillies, Royals, Indians, Reds, Tampa Bay Rays and his current assignment with the New York Mets. Joe signed former Major League pitcher and Alleman High School Baseball and Basketball Star, Jeff Schneider with the Philadelphia Phillies. He also signed current rising star for Tampa Bay, Jeremy Hellickson fro Des Moines, IA.
Joe also worked with former Major League player, Dave Roberts as a Baseball Agent for Dave’s Agency, “Star Performers”. His job was as a Scout identifying prospective major league talent for the organization to represent.
Before he became a scout Joe was the Head Coach at St Ambrose University in Davenport, IA 1974-75. He was also the Head Coach and Manager of the Moline Reds Baseball Club a semi-professional organization. They won the Illinois State Championship in AABC in 1973. In 1978 the organization became the Sexton Ford Giants and finished 4th in the AABC World Series in Battle Creek, Michigan.
During the off season and throughout the year, Joe runs tryout camps and evaluation camps and still teaches private hitting and pitching lessons at Spindog’s Batting and Instruction in Davenport, IA and at the Hack Shack in Moline, IL. While living in Des Moines in the 1990’s he was the Coordinator of Instruction and he taught both hitting and pitching for 10 years at Grand Slam USA working with many future college and professional baseball players.
Joe Murphy brings a significant background in Baseball as a player, coach, scout and manager to the WBSA Organization.
